Lion loses control

When losing control is your normal, your communication also loses its effectiveness.

People ignore what you say because your behaviour distracts and detracts from your message.

When you lose your cool – regardless of how legitimate your message is – the focus shifts to your behaviour instead.

It becomes about the yelling and anger, rather than what is being said.

Instead of listening, people tell you to calm down (which usually has the opposite effect), rendering the content of your message useless.

Take a football coach for example. A coach who screams at the players at every break loses his impact. Players stop paying attention and tune out. The voice just becomes noise. They don’t listen to his words and this only adds to the coach’s frustration.

Have you seen someone lose the power of their message because they lost control of their behaviour?
